Who Am I?

Namaste!! I'm Mayuri Acharyya, originally from Kolkata, India, but currently residing in Ames, USA. Music has always been my passion and I always knew that I wanted to become a professional Music Teacher. In fact, I can’t imagine anything else in life that would bring me such reward or satisfaction.

My musical journey started at the age of 8, and the entire credit goes to my mother and father who had got me enrolled in Shrutinandan, the music school of the living legend, Padma Bhushan Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty. I was extremely lucky to have been selected in his institution and to be a disciple of Guruji without having any prior knowledge of classical music! I still remember the moment when Guruji and Guruma both clapped their hands when I sang the notes 'saregamapa' in the audition. That day I was too young to understand how privileged I was, for little did I know about Guruji or what classical music was!! My father was so overjoyed when I got through the audition that he took me up in his arms and kissed me. I guess that day was the most important day of my life! I was directly promoted to Ascending grade instead of beginning from 'Standing' grade. Since that day, my musical journey and training in Hindustani Classical Music under Guruji continued for 12 long years. During those years I did Riyaaz for 2-3 hours everyday without fail! There are two other teachers whose names I have to mention because they were my mentors throughout those years - Sri Subhodeep Mukherjee and Sri Kaushik Goswami. I had also taken Rabindra sangeet lessons for few years from Sri Prithwish Dasgupta. I have been performing on stage since I was 9 years old in various programs held in my school and later in my College and Office and as a guest artist in various branches of Indian Overseas Bank, Rotary Club of Calcutta, Sahitya Banik Samaj, Divine Light, Taltala Sports Club and in many other events. I also bagged the first position in a reality show held by ETV Bangla in the year 2003.

Apart from music, I professionally worked as a Systems Engineer in Siemens Technology and Services Pvt. Ltd. and Cerner Healthcare Solutions for many years. I have a Master's Degree in Computer Applications.

I truly believe that anyone who puts in the time and effort to practice can succeed. I also believe that there's no specific age to start learning music because music exists in every individual throughout their life. In fact, there's music everywhere around us, we just need to feel it. I'm happy to help anyone who's interested to learn music and my aim is to spread music amongst everyone and find happiness from it.
